1.4828, X15CrNiSi20-12, AISI 309 - specification and application
Heat-resistant steel H20N12S2 is a chromium-nickel-silicon austenitic stainless steel, grade resistant to oxidation in air to a temperature of 950 °C. H20N12S2 has a chemical composition similar to H25N20S2, X15CrNiSi25-21, 1.4841.
The described materials are distinguished by a proportionally lower content of Chromium and Nickel in the chemical composition. The common feature is the same content of Silicon and Carbon. The decision on the selection of the grade is conditioned by the price due to the content of alloy additives and the degree of aggressiveness of the work environment of the final element. Grade 1.4841 can work up to a maximum temperature of 1100 - 1150 ℃.
H20N12S2 steel is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, brittleness when operating at high temperatures, and gases containing Nitrogen and Oxygen. Produced, among others, in the form of hot-rolled sheets in coils, bars and pipes, it is used to produce particularly loaded parts and subassemblies exposed to long-lasting high temperatures.
It should also be mentioned that this grade of steel is not as resistant to gases containing sulfur compounds, reducing gases and environments that show the possibility of sediment formation. In contact with the environment containing exhaust fumes, components and parts may work up to temperature of about 600 °C.
The products are used for the production of special furnaces, loaded parts of conveyors operating at high temperatures, eg hooks, pipes for blowing glass, baskets for porcelain firing, inserts for chimneys of stoves working in a dry environment, chimneys and special boilers. H20N12S2 in weldable.
