X10CrAlSi18, 1.4742, X10CrAl18 - specifications and application

H18JS is a chromium heat-resistant steel with the addition of Aluminum with a ferritic structure used to work at high temperatures for elements without heavy loads. It shows heat resistance up to 1050 ℃ in the air, and it has very good resistance to environments containing sulfur compounds and reducing gases.

It is characterized by relatively good machinability and sufficient resistance to carbonising gases. X10CrAl18 and X10CrAlSi18 are not suitable for the production of parts and components working in high temperatures exposed to load and impact. In addition, exceeding the oxidation temperature is associated with irreversible grain growth, resulting in brittleness.

The relatively low price resuting from the limited content or total absence of nickel in the composition, causes that the material with a ferritic structure is resistant to cold working, and welding requires additional heat treatment operations in the range of 750-800 ℃ with cooling in the air. The brittleness of steel occurs in the temperature range of 450-530 ℃.

Grade 1.4742 is used as steel for burners, parts of furnaces and reactors, pipe caps in furnaces, heat-resistant boiler elements, supports for heaters, apparatus and machine parts in the plastics industry, and plastic dryers.

  • Specific resistance, Ω: 0.93 mkOhm * m
  • Linear expansion coefficient, α: 10.5 - 13.5 * 10-6 K-1

Heat treatment processes:

  • Annealing +A - in a temperature of 800 - 860℃ with cooling in water or air
  • Rolling and forging at a temperature of 1100 - 800 ℃
