Specification and applications of 73MoV5-2, 1.2381 steel grade

High-carbon tool steel with added Vanadium and Molybdenum, characterized by high strength, torsional and fatigue resistance, for the production of basic high hardness tools. Similar to the N7E, N8E tool grades in the enriched version with alloying additives. Main applications are guillotines, punches, screwdrivers, threading dies, knives and blades. The hardened steel reaches a hardness of 64 HRC.

 


Heat treatment

  • Annealing at a temperature of 700-750C with cooling in furnace
  • Relief annealing at a temperature of 650-680C with cooling in furnace
  • Hardening at a temperature of 840-860C with cooling in oil
  • Tempering at temperature:
    • 100C = 64 HRC
    • 200C = 59-60 HRC
    • 300C = 55-56 HRC
    • 400C = 52 HRC
    • 500C = 48 HRC
    • 600C = 45 HRC
