Steel 50CrMo4 - Specification and application

50CrMo4 is steel related to 42CrMo4, 34CrMo4 as well as 25CrMo4. These standards, apart from practically the same concentration of Chromium and Molybdenum, are distinguished by much lower average carbon content in the chemical composition. 50CrMo4 is one of the last grades that is classified as structural steel for thermal improvement and its only similar steel grade is 50H - not containing Molybdenum.

Products with a particular composition are dedicated for vehicles and machines that require high hardness and are subject to strong bending, twisting, abrasion and wear loads. They have a higher yield point than other HM steels.

They are used as semi-finished products for the manufacture of components such as crankshafts, cogwheels, heavy-duty axles, gears, valves, heavy-duty screws, thrust rollers, guides, articulated joints, thrust rings, bolts or bushes.

For some applications, the steel may exhibit good spring properties. Simple yet proven chemical composition allows for easy welding of parts and mechanical cutting.
