Steel 36HNM - description and specification
Structural alloy steel with high hardness and toughness for thermal improvement characterized by high resistance to impact, twisting, and vibration. The best mechanical properties reach at dimensions of about 80mm after hardening in oil, and at 100mm after hardening in water.
In addition, it does not show sensitivity to the temper brittleness. Used for machine parts, motor vehicles, engine parts and aircrafts, heavy-duty components of road and mining machinery.
The 36HNM steel is used to made connecting rods, control parts, crushed shafts, press parts, shafts for motors, shafts of larger diameter steam turbines, control parts, heavy duty screws and screws, shipbuilding parts operating at temperatures up to 400 ℃ , single disc and quartz rotors, shafts for pumps, and drilling components in the oil industry.

Welding, joining and cutting of 36HNM steel
36HNM grade is hard to weld steel grade. Products are welded under exceptional circumstances with arc or CO2 welding, preferably in a softened state. Before welding, the steel needs to be heated to the appropriate temperature depending on the dimensions of the product.
In the case of welding in the heat-treated state, the joining points and their periphery will lose some of the acquired properties, and then the best solution is to perform a suitable heat treatment. After the welding process, even before the product has cooled, the material at the joining points should be tempered or softened.
In cases where there are no conditions for heat treatment, the products should be cooled slowly with the furnace or in hot sand.
When cutting, the products must be heated to 250 - 350 ℃ and the cutting can be made with oxyacetylene blowpipe, propane-butane-oxygen torch or plasma torch. Cut products should be cooled in the air.
36HNM steel can also be joined - by electric welding, friction welding or resistance welding in a softened or heat-treated state. Welded products may exhibit slight differences, bearing in mind the properties of steel.
