1.2328, 45CrMoV7, 40Ch2GMF – description
Tool steel used for cold working die tools, stamps and drifters. It has good wear resistance.
The steel is meant to be air-hardened, which reduces the risk of deformations and cracks during the heat treatment. It has good hardenability but is susceptible to tempering, thus requires proper temperature during work.
Physical and mechanical properties
1.2328 - general physical and mechanical properties in ambient temperature:
- Density: 7.85 g/m3
- Hardness in soft annealed condition: < 250 HB
Heat treatment and working
Recommended working and heat treatment parameters for 1.2328 alloy:
- Forging: 1000-850 °C
- Rolling: 1000-850 °C
- Quenching: 840-860 °C
- Soft annealing: 690-730 °C
